The northern and eastern part of the country has high terrain while the lower south and southwest part is mainly semi-deserts and plain lands. People

Since the invasion of the region by Alexander the Great, there has been a steady migration of diverse people coming to the country. This has led to the settlement of different ethnic minorities like Pashtun (38 %), Tajik (25 %), Hazara (19 %) and Uzbek (6%). The Hindu Kush Mountain divides the country. The northern plains and valley have the Takiks and Uzbeks while the Pashtuns inhabit the southern plateaus in the desert areas. The Hazara live in the central highlands. The South of the Hindukush is connected to the northern plains by narrow passes.

In Kabul one can visit Kabul Museum, the Statue of Surya at Khair Khana, The Minaret of Chakari, the mausoeum of Mohammad Nadir Shah, the Minar-i-Istklal, the tomb of ht TImur Shah, Bala Hissar, Afghan National Museum, the Afghan National Gallery, Kabul Zoo, Babur Gardens, the Afghan Royal Family Mausoleum, Babur's Tomb and Gardens.

In Herat, there are beautiful tile and mosaic decoration of Gazargah, the tomb of 11th century poet Khawaja Abdullah Ansari and Amir Dost Mohammad who was a king of Afghanistan, the Gawhar Shad's Mausoleum, the tomb of the wife of Shah Rukh who was the son of Tamerlene. This tomb is very beautiful tile work and the Musalla Complex that was built by Wueen Gawhar Shad in 1492. There are some beautiful lakes in Afghanistan including Abe e Istadeh ye Moqor, Sari Qul, Band e Kajaki. The people of Afghanistan have a great sense of hospitality.

Dining in Afghanistan

The people of Afghanistan is noted for their hospitality. This is more apparent while dining. Friends and family members gather during meal times. It is a time when the family takes part in the meal and is accompanied by Afghani music and good food. The menu usually consists of meats, naan breads, vegetables, salads, yogurt, puddings, rice and sweet pastries. Drinks consists of Dug or murg beverages that are made of yoghurt and buttermilk.

Getting in Afghanistan

The international airport in Afghanistan is the Kabul International Airport which is located in the capital city Kabul. The national carrier of Afghanistan is the Ariana Afghan Airlines. There are daily flights from Dubai, Islamabad, Delhi, Istanbul, Baku and Tehran. There are a small fleet of about 14 airbuses and Boeing. There is another airline called Kam Air that provides twice daily flights from Dubai, twice weekly flights from Delhi as well as Weekly flights from Almaty, Istanbul and Mashad.

There is a new private airlines called Pamir Airways which provides daily flights between Kabul and Dubai, some of which stops in Herat. Other airlines providing air services to Afghanistan include Air Arabia, Pakistan International Airlines, Iran Air and Air India.

Those planning for Afghanistan Travel can come to the country by car from Peshawar in Pakistan through Khyber Pass going to Jalalabad and the road goes to Kabul. There are other routes to reach the country including Quetta to Kandhar, Mashad to Herat and Uzbekistan to Mazar-e Sharif and from Tajikistan to Konduz. One can also avail the bus service which are regularly available between Jalalabad and Peshawar.
