History of Konduz, Afghanistan:

Konduz in Afghanistan has an antiquity dating back to the times of Alexander the Great. It was named as Drapsaka. The city came into limelight during the governance of Sher Khan Nasher in the 20th century. Spinzar Cotton Company was founded by Nasher which transformed the city into the wealthiest Afghan province. This was the last major city held by the Talibans before it was freed by the US backed force in November 2001.

Konduz is inhabited by people who belong to different ethnic groups. The demography comprises of the Tajiks, Aimaq, Uzbeks, Pashtuns and the Hazaras. The city has been divided into six districts – Khan Abad, Ali Abad, Char Dara, Dashti Archi, Qala-e-zal and Imam Sahib.
