The first day of the Gregorian calendar is a much-awaited event here and accounts to much feasting and merry making. The entire nation is illuminated with multicolored lights and fire works are in display everywhere.
Places like the Cape Town throngs with locals and tourist alike who flock to witness the famous Minstrel Carnival parade. In other areas like Victoriav and Alfred waterfront, light works, fireworks and many theme parties involving plenty of dancing and singing welcome the New Year.
Another feather to the cap of New Year celebrations in Africa are the pristine beaches, which organizes many parties specially attended by the tourists. With the sea and your loved ones for company, nothing can be more heavenly than this in welcoming the New Year.
