Tirana Travel

Tirana Travel is not complete without a proper understanding of the city of Tirana and its mosaic of culture and art. Tirana Travel is not complete without a brief understanding of the history of the place. Tirana, is a small city compared to the bigger metropolises of Europe and its satellite countries in Eastern Europe. Most cities when compared to Tirana are large and do not compare to the Capital city of Albania . The city of Tirana is a small and compact city best explored on foot. The architecture of Tirana is mostly influenced by the Italian and Turkish cultural life and is very different in terms of artistry. Nevertheless, the comparisons are drawn every now and then. The Capital city of Albania is in fact geographically in between Rome and Istanbul. The Skenderberg Square is right in the middle of the city and is a huge promenade right at the heart of this city. Tirana is a landlocked city with mountains very close to the city hub. The Eastern half of the city is littered with the mountain ranges of MT Dajti with towering peaks of about 5,030 ft. The city of Tirana is dotted with many mausoleums and cultural corners which attract the tourists.

Tirana is 110 meters above sea level and the average annual temperature is around 24degrees centigrade in the months of June and July. The winter months of January and February are cooler and very mild with the temperature not soaring above 7 degrees centigrade. The annual rainfall is also quite less making Tirana a very dry city with the rainfall standing at 1200millimeters per year. Tirana is at the same parallel as Naples, Madrid and Istanbul and on the same meridian as Budapest and Krakow. Suleiman Pasha from the village of Mullet founded Tirana in 1614. In the beginning, Pasha built a mosque and then a bakery and a public sauna. Two centuries later the Toptani family led the city from Kruja.

Many theories circulate regarding the history of the name Tirana, it is often considered one which is debatable. Many scholars say that the name Tirana is derived from Tehran, the capital of Iran while some argue that Suleiman Pasha had taken the name from an old lady who had given the name to him. The old lady it is said was spinning yarn from silk and she referred to the city in a certain way. Pasha being the ruler of the city took it upon himself and named the city after her words. There is a lot to Tirana Travel than what meets the eye.
