The Monument of the Martyrs or the Monument des Martyrs is an iconic concrete monument that is built in memory of the Algerian war for independence. The monument is fashioned in the shape of three standing palm leaves which shelter the "Eternal Flame". A soldier stands at the edge of each palm leaf representing a stage of Algeria's struggle.
The El Jedid mosque situated near the port is another important spot of sightseeing in the city.
