Setif, Algeria is one of the most amusing city in the north eastern part of Algeria. Setif, with a population of 2,30,000 inhabitants is located south of Babor Mountains at an altitude of 1096 meters above the sea level. With land are measuring 6,504 sq km, the city is known for its amusement which is located in the center of the city drawing the attention of all local and international visitors. It is an important commercial town. As such it is visited by large number business travelers as well as tourists to enjoy the wonderful amusement park.
Setif, the capital of the Setif Province, was set up by the French colonists on the ruins of the Roman Colony of the first century that set up for veterans. From the growth of town till the 19th century, the place remained in complete darkness as there are no historical records that could be traced. The town emerged in the historical scene after the French troop stationed its garrison here in 1838 and with a terrible incident that took place in 1945 in which forty thousand Algerians were massacred. However the turbulent period is over and peace has been established which has opened up the door for tourism in Setif.
Setif, Algeria experiences a cool climate because of its location at higher elevation. Wialya, a province of Setif attracts a lot of tourists with snow that measures up to 40 cms. Summer can best be avoided as it remains fairly hot and hot waves are quite common.
Tourism in Setif is rapidly growing up with the prevalence of peace. People are flocking Setif in large numbers to enjoy the amusement park that is built in the center of the town. It is located one block away from the main street. It occupies half of the town of Setif drawing a lot of local and international attention. The park is quite well maintained and offers a lot of amusements for children and people of all age groups. The park houses a small zoo, an artificial lake and beautiful fountains. Other important city attractions include archaeological museum and the ruins of the Byzantine fortress.
Setif has some decent arrangements for accommodation and dining that provides a great boost to the promotion of tourism in the province. It is counted among one of the most important destinations in Algeria.
