Kuito, Angola is the administrative capital of the province of the Bie Province. It is located in the central part of Angola. The city is rapidly developing into a great tourist center after the establishment of peace in the area following the civil war. Kuito, Angola is in the path of reconstruction. It is located in the coordinates between 12°23'S and 16°56'E.
Kuito in Angola is the traditional center of the Oyimbundu Kingdom. Its colonial name was Silva Porto. The city was built together by the Oyimbundu king Vive with his wife Cahanda. Later on the Portuguese for slave trade used this city. This attracted many colonial powers with its ideal location for this trade. The Portuguese founded the city in 1750 and named it as Silva Porto after its slave trader Antonio da Silvo Porto and got it connected with the Benguela railway.
Kuito in Angola lies between the Benguela railway that connects the coastal areas with the inland provinces. Direct domestic flights also operate from Luanda. There are some fine tourist attractions that has started drawing tourists to the province.
