Getting to Angola by Air

The Airports in Angola in Luanda is the international airport, called 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, which is located 4 kilometers from Luanda. One can get direct flights to the country from Paris (Air France), London (British Airways) and Lisbon (TAP). Some times cheap flights are available with Ethiopian Airlines who have flights from London to Luanda via Addi Ababa, twice weekly. There are also flights available from Addis Ababa, Brazzaville, Johannesburg, Kinshasa, Windhoek and Harare.

Getting to Angola by Land

The border with Namibia has the only official entry points to enter the country. These include the Sabta Chara from Oshikango (Namibia) and Rubdu (Namibia). The other borders of Angola are meant for the refugees or are not safe to cross. The traffic in Angola goes on the right side of the road. It is very difficult to hire a car, though taxis are widely available. There are a good number of famous car rental companies. There used to be 800 km of tarred roads in the country, but much have been damaged as a result of the war. Many of the roads are also unsafe at present and one should take local advice seriously.

Visitors to the country should have an international license in paper, though a national license can be used for 30 days.

Getting to Angola by Rail

There are three separate routes available to enter the country from neighboring countries. The routes available are from Luanda to Malanje which branches off to Dondo and Golungo Alto. There are daily rail services available. The second rail route is from Lobito to DIlolo (the Benguela Railway) which also runs daily. And the third is from Nambie to Manongue which is also a daily service.
