San Juan is a major tourist resort found in the year 1521. It is one of the biggest and best natural harbors in Argentina and the second oldest city in North and South America.
San Juan has become a major tourist destination in Argentina. It comprises of three district areas namely Old San Juan, the Beach & Resort area, and other outlying communities. Some of the important communities include Río Piedras, Hato Rey, Puerta de Tierra, and Santurce. Río Piedras was founded in 1714 but became incorporated into San Juan in 1951.
The city boasts of a number of famous parks and museums where you can admire Puerto Rico art and music which includes staging of shows and festivals. Artifacts such as ceramics and archaeological digs, pottery, stone tools and relics are showcased. You can also admire a recreation of a Taíno village and an impressive collection of Caribbean and European American art and artifacts, most notably a diverse collection of carved santos.
Some of the othwe famous sights of San Juan include Casa de los Contrafuertes, San Juan Beach and Resort, Casa del Libro, Puerta de San Juan and La Princesa.
San Juan is one of the financial centers of the country and contributes largely to the economy of Argentina. A lot of revenue is generated from petroleum, sugar refining, brewing and distilling, which are some of the industries present here. The city produces cement, pharmaceuticals, metal products clothing, and tobacco.
The Old San Juan district is a 450-year-old military establishment out of which seven square blocks have been transformed into a residential area. The city has more than 400 colonial buildings some of the famous ones being Plaza de San José, Plaza del Quinto Centenario, Plaza de Armas, Plaza de Colón, Plazuela de la Rogativa and Plaza de Hostos. There are numerous casinos here too.
