The game of tennis was introduced in Argentina by British immigrants. However, the sport gained popularity in the year 1970 with the success of Guillermo Vila in national and international touraments. In 1975 ATP ranking he acquired a second place. He was later honored with the International Tennis Hall of Fame. In 1980 Argentina defeated Italy in the World Team Cup and became eligible to play for the finals in the Davis Cup. Gabriela Sabatini, Paola Suarez, Jose Acasuso and Spaniard Virginia Ruano Pascual are some of the top Argentinian tennis players who have acquired International fame in the game of tennis. Paola Suarez won Grand Slam doubles eight times. David Nalbandian reached the Wimbledon final in the year 2002.

The ATP Buenos Aires is a yearly tennis tournament which is hosted in the capital city of Argentina, Buenos Aires. Only male tennis players can participate in this tournament. The tournament is played in Lawn Tennis Club in Buenos Aires. The club houses outdoor clay courts. ATP Buenos Aires is a part of the International Series Event. The tournament includes single as well as doubles.

Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club and Estadio Parque Roca serve as venues for hosting tennis tournaments. Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club is situated in Palermo region in Buenos Aires. The stadium has a seating capacity of 5,500 spectators. It has hosted Federation Cup and Davis Cup many times. It has also organized an exhibition tournament called the Peugeot Argentina Tennis Cup. The Estadio Parque Roca is situated in Villa Riachuelo region of Buenos Aires. It can accommodate 14, 510 spectators. It was inaugurated in the year 2006, on 19th September. The 2006 Davis Cup Semifinal was the first official tournament to be played here in this stadium. The game was played between Australia and Argentina.
