One of the popular volcanoes in Argentina is the Copahue volcano. It is one of the few extant volcanoes in the country and attracts thousands of visitors every year. The crater of the volcano is 8 km wide and was created long way back, about 0.6 millions years ago in close proximity to the NW margin of the Pliocene. The peak of the crater comprises of a salty lake, which is characterized by strong fumarolic activity. The volcano has witnessed sporadic eruptions since the 18th century and the in recent times, the volcano erupted in July 2000.
Apart from this volcano, there are also other volcanoes in the country, most of which are dormant and are favorite haunts of nature lovers. Other popular vaolcanoes of Argentina are Antofagasta de la Sierra, Antofalla, Aracar, Caldera del Atuel, Cerro Bayo, Cerro El Cóndor and many others.
