The name of Gyumri, Armenia has been converted a number of times in history. This was first recognized as Kumayri or Gyumri, later its name changed to Alexandropol and later between the years 1924 and 1990 the name of the city got changed into Leninakan. At last its named was changed to Gyumri.

Gyumri, Armenia is the home to several large buildings and constructions. This city has plenty of sporting places. Gyumri has an Armenian football team and thus a superb stadium has come up to provide them the ground to play. The Gyumri City Stadium was founded in the year 1924 that makes this place an attractive one for the sports lovers.

You can also see some other famous buildings here. There are total five churches including a convent and a Russian chapel. One of the most significant historical churches in this city of Gyumri is the Church of the Holy Saviour of All. This church resembles the Ani Mother Cathedral. The making of this church was started in the year 1859 and was finished in the year 1873. Later, this church was badly demolished by the 1988’s earthquake. However, today, this church stands with great magnificence.

Gyumri, Armenia has a church for the local Christian people. The Greek Church called "Uroms" was founded in the year 1850 and established by means of the Bayandur villagers. Ter-Kostandin was the priest of this church at that time.

The Russian church of Gyumri, Armenia has a curved cross named "Plplan". This was established on Teryan Street. Owing to the superb brightness of the dome, the local people named it "Plplan" church. There were no clerical ceremonies arranged in this church.

The church of "Gyughatsots" in Gyumri, Armenia was established in the year 1862. The construction of this church is very intricate and portrays the ultimate Armenian architecture.
