The term Far East is often used to describe East Asia, South Asia and South East Asia combined. Far East in the true sense of the term is however referred to the countries lying to Russia's East such as China, Taiwan, Japan, North Korea and South Korea, Philippines and Vietnam. South East Asian states are also included Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia and some South Asian countries as well.
Far East boasts of a large population of more than 593 million people. China is the largest and mostly densely populated country in the world that lies prominently in the Far East. A large contingent of Overseas Chinese people live in South East Asia. Some of the areas of South East Asia where the Chinese people can be prominently found include Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand and also in Vietnam. The countries of Japan an China are also considered to be technologically advance and are giving strong competition to the countries of the West.
Far East is known for its wide amalgamation of languages. Some of the languages followed widely in the region include Manadarin Chinese, Malay, Tamil, English, Thai, Vietnamese, Malay and Filipino. Japanese and Chinese are widely spoken in these parts. Other languages apart from official languages such as Japanese and English are followed in most parts for economic development and tourism.
There are a number of countries in the Far East that follow Buddhism. Other religions also practiced and followed in the region include Christianity, Hinduism and Islam. Thailand is a Buddhist country whereas Islam is the prominent religion of the people in Malaysia. Buddhism is mainly followed in Japan.
