The history of Australia dates back to about 70000 years back when the 'robust' or the heavily boned people had landed then. The 'Gracile ' people are believed to have landed in Australia about 50000 years ago. The origins of the humans on this continent can be traced back to as far as the last ice age.

Australia was invaded by European Imperialism only in the 16th century. The British Pirates followed by the Portuguese and the Dutch. Captain Cook sailed along the entire east coast in the year 1770 and bagged the territory of New South Wales for the British. The Europeans settled in Australia for two reasons: First was the quest for gold and the second was to find a place for secondary punishments.
The entire Australian economy had changed for the better because of the gold rush in the 1850s. Australia soon became the resource hub for the rapidly expanding British Industry.
