The beautiful Baroque arcades contain chapels belonging to numerous old patrician families of Salzburg.

  • Santino Solari – He was the architect and builder of Salzburg Cathedral and is buried in Crypt XXXI.
  • In Crypt XXXIX lies Sigmund Haffner who was the mayor, benefactor and friend of the Mozart family. Mozart composed a symphony after him and named it the ‘Haffner Serenade’ and ‘Haffner Symphony’.
  • The crypt LIV contains the grave of Nannerl Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s sister.
  • The torso of Michel Haydn who was the younger brother of the famous composer Joseph Haydn. His head is in the museum of St. Peter’s.
  • Lorenz Hagenauer who was the Mozart family’s friend and landlord.
  • The organist and composer Paul Hofhaimer.
  • The opera singer Richard Mayr.
  • Harry Collins who was the last commander of the American occupation forces and later lived in Salzburg as an honorary citizen of the city.

Other things to see at the Friedhof St. Peter, Salzburg are the catacombs which were carved out of the Monchsberg rock. Other attractions include St.Peter’s Church, St.Gertrude’s Chapel and Maximus Chapel.
