Vienna- Church of the Augustinians is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Vienna.

Situated on Josefsplatz in Vienna, the church was constructed in the 14 th century to serve as a parish chapel of the royal court. However the interior of the church featuring Gothic style of architecture was added in the 18 th century. Vienna- Church of the Augustinians is a must see attraction for both the Catholics and the non Catholics.

Vienna- Church of the Augustinians presents a spectacular decor with lofty vertical piers, vaults and suspended chandeliers. There are urns made of silver placed on the right of the main altar in the tiny Loreto Chapel in which the hearts of the medieval rulers are preserved. The urns are visible through the window created in an iron door.

Within the church you can view the tomb of Maria Christina, the daughter of Maria Theresa. The tomb lies close to the entrance on the rear side of the church. The tomb is beautifully decorated. But does not contain the body of the princess who lies buried in the Imperial Court.

Vienna- Church of the Augustinians has stood witness to many a wedding ceremonies. Maria Theresa tied the knot in this church with Francis Stephen of Lorraine in 1736. She was followed by other couples. At this church, Marie Antoinette was married to Louis XVI of France in 1770, Marie-Louise of Austria was married to Napoléon in 1810 and in the year 1854 Franz Joseph tied the knot to Elisabeth of Bavaria.

However the tourists can see the church on Sundays and Mondays after the mass. Otherwise public can enter the church if they are on a guided tour. Vienna- Church of the Augustinians is a highly recommended tourist attraction in Vienna.

You can attend the Sunday mass to in the months of June to September, when the music of Hayden or Mozart are played. The famous Baroque organ is played at the mass. Arrive al ittle early to manage a good seat. The church is easily accessible from all points in the city.
