Vienna has a large public transportation network system. Transportation in Vienna is possible by various modes. These include the Vienna S-Bahn, Vienna U-Bahn, Local Railways and the Wiener Linien which is the Vienna Lines. Vienna has twelve bridges crossing the Danube in the city area. There is an extensive tram and bus network. The tram network is the third larges in the whole world. The public transport system runs very frequently in the most populous areas of Vienna. In the night time, Nightline buses operate on all the important routes, every half hour.

Transportation in Vienna - Railways

All the transport system was directed towards the main cities. Vienna has several large and small train stations, which are important for the local passenger traffic. The Westbahnhof and the Sudbahnhof serve all long distance trains, many stopping at the Huteldorf or the Meidling. An underground tunnel is built underneath Lainzer Tiergarten which links the western railway to the southern railway. All long distance traffic will be bundled through the train station called Wien Zentralbahnhof.

Vienna has the Bundesstrassen which leaves the city in a star shaped style. There are three national autobahns which leaves Vienna in the westerly (A1), southerly (A2) and the easterly directions (A4). They are known after their exit direction.

Vienna is well-connected to Rotterdam as well as the Rhine-Main-Danube canal. To the Eastern European countries Vienna is connected along the Danube going to the Black sea. There is the "Twin City Liner" which connects Vienna and Bratislava by boat.
