Geography: 3.2 km to the east of Java is Bali. This small island is 153 by 112 km in size. Mount Agung with a height of 3,142 m is the heighest peak of Bali. The alluvial plain towards south gets flooded during the rainy season. The main cities of Bali are Singaraja, Denpasar, and Ubud. Bali is surrounded by coral reefs. The northern beaches are while and silvery, the western being black.

History: The prehistoric race who migrated through Asia was the first inhabitant of Bali in 3000 BC. During 100 BC the Hindu settlements began here. In 913 AD subak, an irrigation system to help grow rice was developed here. Majapahit Empire formed its colony in Bali in 1343. In 1950, along with the arrival of Dutch and Portuguese, Bali came in contacts with European nations. During the Second World War, Bali was occupied by Japan.
Economy: Bali’s economy was mainly dependent upon agriculture. But today tourism plays the most important role in Bali’s economy, contributing a major amount in GDP. The tourism industry is growing rapidly and Bali has been recently named as “Congress Tourism.”
Transport System: Ngurah Rai International Airport of Bali is well connected with the major cities of the world. International flights and be plied from Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Australian cities.
Ferry services can also be availed from Gilimanuk to Balinese port. Buses are cheapest and are the main modes of public transport here. Cars, bicycles, and bikes can also be rented.
Society & Cultural Life: The people and festivals of Bali are very colorful. A strong European influence could be observed in their festivals and way of living.
