Bridgetown is the capital of Barbados. It is also the commercial center of Barbados and is home to a population of about 80,000 people. Initially, Bridgetown was called "Indian Bridge" . This is because a bridge was constructed in Bridgetown, Barbados over the river Careenage by Indians.

Bridgetown in Barbados was referred to as the "town of St. Michael" in some of the official documents of the country. This happened before the final nomenclature of Bridgetown. The Chamberlain Bridge or the "Indian Bridge" was erected in Bridgetown in the year 1872. In 2006, the Chamberlain Bridge was replaced with a modern lift bridge.

There are several tourist attractions in Bridgetown. While you are in Bridgetown, note that Broad Street is the main street of Bridgetown. Broad Street is littered with banks, departmental stores and duty free shops. There are many other streets in Bridgetown. Some of them are Swan Street, Roebuck Street and Tudor Street. These streets are marked with smaller shops, business houses and wayside vendors.

The "Trafalgar Square" is situated opposite the Parliament Buildings. You will find a statue of Lord Nelson over here. The Lord Nelson statue was erected in the year 1813.
