The oldest town in Belarus is Polacak, Belarus which was mentioned in the chronicles of the 9th century. The city is located in the center of Polacak district. It is located on the Dzvina River where the river Palata flows into it. Polacak, Belarus is 100 kilometers to north to the North-West of Viciebsk. The city is also a major railway junction as many railway lines meet here like trains to and from Maladziecna, Nieviel', Viciebsk and Daugavpils.

Polacak, Belarus has been mentioned by many names in the historical documents like Polotesk, Polteks, Polot'sk, and Paltejsborg. The city was first mentioned in 862 AD in the 'Story of Bygone Years'. This Belarus Tourist Destination was founded by the Kryvichi Eastern Slavs. It was founded at the crossing of Western Dzvina River with Palata which gave its name Polacak. In the 8th and 9th centuries, Polacak, Belarus became the state center for the Kryvichi Eastern Slavs. From the 10th to the 13th centuries the center of the powerful Polacak Principality was this city. At that time the principality was trying to unify the Eastern Slavs with Ukrainian Kyiv and Russian Nogorod.

Polacak in Belarus became the spiritual capital of the Kryvichi Belarusian's. To establish the Eastern Orthodox faith, the Sofia Cathedral was established. The nun Euthrosinia became the first woman saint in Eastern Europe in the 12th century. In the 12th century Polacak, Belarus also developed its own School of Icon Painting. In 1307 this city becomes part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It was ruled by the appointees of the Grand Duke. In 1490 the Belarusian enlightener and painter, Francisk Skaryna was born.

In the 17th century the city was ruined when the Russian Tsar Ivan the Terrible took over the city. In 1710 more damage is done by the Russian Tsar, Peter the Great during the Russian-Swedish War. Again during the battle between the Russian Army and Napoleon in 1812 a major portion of the city was burnt. You can see all these historic relics while taking the Polacak Tours.
