Slonim, Belarus is one of the oldest towns in the country. The town is located on the River Schara and is one of the regional centers of the Grodno Oblast region. Slonim, Belarus lies to the south of the Grodno region. The city dates back to the year 1940 and covers an area of about 1.5 thousand square kilometers. The river Schara, with its tributaries Grivda, Berioza, Issa and Zelva flows through Slonim, Belarus. The population count of the city ranges to about 60,000.

Slonim is one of the popular tourist destinations in Belarus. The railway station in Slonim is on the Baranovichi-Volkovysk route. The road routes that connects Slonim, Belarus are Baranovichi, Ivatsevichi, Ruzhany, Zelva and Diatlovo. They are the easiest motor routes for getting to Slonim.

The history of Slonim is very interesting. Since the 16th century, the region was a part of the Novogrudok wojewodztwo province. Prince Sapega built a wooden palace here, which in the 17th century served as a venue for the meeting of the Polish gentry and the Great Principality of Lithunia.

During the late 18th century the great composer Mikhail Oginsky,ordered for a new architectural structure to be erected . It was a beautiful palace with 116 rooms and halls, a hothhouse and separate houses for servants and guests. There is also a publishing house, a park and a theater in the premises. The main building is made of stone and the adjacent one is of wood.

The theater had a stage for the specialized purpose of the artists to enter the stage. The theater mainly used to showcase ballet shows, operas composed by the renowned Italian composers and Mikhail Oginsky himself. The theater won fame throughout Belarus. The publishing house was also very famous.

The town Slonim, Belarus has much impact in the economic life of the city. The channel built by Oginsky was about 53 kilometers long and connected the Baltic and the Black Sea and this made the town a trading point on the Schara river.

During 1921-1939, Slonim, Belarus was part of Poland and since 1939 the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic overtook it. About 34% of the territory is covered by forest; there is also a botanical reserve in the district. One can very well plan a trip of sightseeing in Slonim, visiting the various tourist attractions in the city.
