Belize Zoo in Belize City is situated on the Western Highway, 29.5 miles away from Belize City, towards the west. The zoo is open on all days of the week except on Christmas Day and Good Friday. The Belize Zoo, Belize City opened to visitors in 1983. It is a rehabilitation center for animals. It serves as a home for injured animals, abandoned and abused pets. It originally started to provide home to those animals who have been used to make documentary films pertaining to tropical forests. The zoo also houses a Tropical Educational center.

The Belize Zoo Jungle Lodge spreading over an area of 84 acres in the Savannah is situated beside the zoo. The tourists can choose to stay here and explore the wildlife and birds and the unspoilt beauty of the Savannah. It is provided with a Bird deck from where you can watch birds. The lodge houses a classroom, dining area, kitchen and dormitories. The Belize Zoo offers a gift shop.
