The town lies in northern Belize near the Caribbean sea and is bout 9 miles from the Mexican border. It has a population of more than eight thousand people and is the capital of the district of Corozal.

The place is also known as “korosal and is surrounded by Puerto Rico in the central-eastern region, Orocovis and Barranquitas to the north, Vega Alta to the south and Toa Alta to the south west .It is bounded by Morovis and Orocovis to the east, and Naranjito binds it to the west. The place comprises mainly of 12 wards and a downtown area which is also the administrative area of the place.

Facts about Corozal related to its history: The place had a local chief who was known as Orocobix who belonged to the tribe known as “Jatibonicu Taino”.The place was founded in the year 1795 and later on in the year 1804 became an official town. The local name of the place was La Cuna del Volibol or Volleyball's Crib. The place has a total land area of 110.3 km˛ (43 sq mi).

The flag of Corozal consists of three horizontal stripes of equal width which is yellow at the top, green in the middle and blue at the bottom. Some portions in the middle are embroidered.

Facts about Corozal related to its coat of arms: The coat of arms mainly consists of three Corozo Palms on a gold background having clusters in their original color. The clusters are planted on a green landscape and in front of a mountain range. The bottom portion consists of blue and silver water waves sprinkled with gold nuggets. The three tower crowns have a golden color with black stones.
