Tourists can also tour the western part of the mountain range which houses the Mountain Pine Ridge Plateau, the oldest land surface in Central America.

Belize experiences a tropical climate. Temperatures are slightly higher in the inlands of Belize while the mountain regions are slightly cooler. One must avoid visiting Belize during the months of September to December when hurricanes and floods hit the coastal regions of the country making traveling very difficult.

Belizean landscape can be divided into two physiographic regions. The first region is the southern half of the country distinguished by the Maya Mountains and plateaus. Secondly, is the northern part comprising of lowlands, coastal plains and eighteen rivers. The largest river of the country, the Black River also flows across this region.
