Orange Walk town is situated in Orange Walk district in Belize. The Orange Walk region is landscaped by deep forests. The town is situated 55 miles away from Belize city, towards the north. It takes 75 minutes to drive to Orange Town from Belize city. Orange Walk is one of the popular tourist destinations in Belize in Central America. Lamanai, Orange Walk

Lamani in Orange Walk is situated in New River Lagoon . It is one of the largest archaeological sites in the country. Lamaini site covering an area of 950 acres houses around hundred buildings which have been unearthed during excavations. Check out the Mayan ruins here. NIO-43 is the largest Mayan ruin discovered here.

Two Christian Churches, sugar mill, reservoir are amongst the ruins found in Lamanai, Orange Walk. These structures were built in the Mayan times. The Lamanai Mayan Ruins in Orange Walk were discovered for the first time in the year 1917. However, in 1974 the Royal Ontario Museum excavated the site properly and preserved the ruins.

You can reach Lamanai by taking a boat-ride along the New River. The boat rides are offered in the form of safaris by tour operators in the country. The boat ride takes 90 minutes. As you take a ride along the river you will see vultures, herons, crocodiles and kingfishers. Else you can reach it by car or bus by taking the road emerging from San Felipe. During the rainy season the this road is not accessible.

The region around the Lamanai ruins is home to exotic wildlife. There is a beautiful lagoon encircling the Lamanai, Orange Walk. You will get to see various types of waterfowls wading in the waters of the lagoon. Some of the other attractions near Lamanai Ruins are Jaguar Temple, Mask Temple and High temple.
