Barton Creek Cave Another one of the Western Belize Caves, San Ignacio is the Barton Creek Cave. This remote underground water cave system can be explored in a canoe with powerful spotlights. These caves are believed to be used by the Mayans for ritual ceremonies. While traveling through this cave you can see skeletal remains, large and colorful formations and other cultural artifacts left behind by the Mayans. The whole distance from the cave’s entrance to the stopping point is about a mile.

The Che Chem Ha Cave The Che Chem Ha Cave is another popular cave amongst the Western Belize Caves, San Ignacio. This cave was used by the Mayans as a ceremonial center for their after-life, blood letting rituals as well as a storehouse for grain. There are different levels in the cave. At these levels you can see pristine artifacts, large pottery vessels with paintings and other distinct markings. There is also a chamber containing artifacts used in performing ritualized ceremonies. Just 5 minutes walking distance from the entrance of the The Che Chem Ha Cave is the Chechem Hah Falls.
