Getting to Thimpu by air
You can avail tickets of Druk Air to travel to Thimphu. Druk Air is the official airlines of the Bhutan. The flights to Bhutan will land you at Paro. If you are traveling during the monsoons and in winter, the flights are subjected to delays because of sudden weather changes. It is therefore advised to include an extra day in your itinerary.
Getting to Thimphu by road.
The nearest airport from Thimphu is Bagdogra in Shiliguri in India. You can travel to Bagdogra from Kolkata and Delhi by air. From there you need to travel to Phuntsholing which lies in the border area of Bhutan. The journey takes about 3 – 4 hour ride. On reaching Phuentshilling, it will take about 6 hours to reach Thimphu, the capital city of the country or Paro airport.
For Getting to Thimphu you need to have the visas which are offered by the Department of Tourism in Bhutan. The visas are obtained once you reach the country. However the notice of clearance of the visas and a particular number is given beforehand. But you do not need visas to purchase tickets of the plane.
