Jakar is a small town in Bhutan. It is the district capital of the district of Bumthang. Its undulating terrain, which is filled with apple trees and innumerable temples, is a tourist's delight. Visiting Jakar in the month of September has its advantages. You will not only be visiting the many tourist attractions in Jakar, but you will also witness its two festivals, namely Thangbi Mani and Tamshing Phala held in this month.
Location
Jakar is situated in the north-eastern part of Bhutan. It is located in the Choekhor Valley.
Travel in Jakar
Getting to Jakar is easy. You simply need to take a bus from Thimpu to reach this region. The journey is of around eleven hours. There are privately owned buses as well. These are run by a company, Gari Singye. They leave Thimpu bus station at 6.30 in the morning everyday. Since there are no breaks except for lunch, it would be advisable to carry some snacks for the journey to Jakar. Once you reach Jakar, you can use the taxis to take you around the area.

Jakar Dzong
This Dzong, which means the 'Fortress of the White Bird,' was built in 1667. History states that there was a group of Lamas who were in search of an appropriate site for their new dzong. At the time, a white bird flew above them till it finally perched on a hill. The bird's action was considered a good omen. So, that point was chosen as the site for the construction of the dzong. It was from this that the dzong got its name, White Bird.
Wangkichholing Palace

Jambey Lhakhang
This is a monastery. Guru Rimpoche is largely associated with this place. In fact it was the first place that he visited. It was he who brought the Tantric form of Buddhism to the two countries of Tibet and Bhutan.
