History
Very little is known about the history of Bhutan. However, recent findings have revealed that there have been inhabitants here since 2000BC. There are other findings according to which Buddhism came to this land in the 8th Century, followed by the rise of Drukpa. Drukpa was a sub-sect of the Kagyud school of Mahayan Buddhism, and it was established in the 15th or 16th Century. This rise led to the rule of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1616. This came to an end in the 19th Century with Sir Ugyen Wangchuk. He became Bhutan's first king.
