A two week festival called the Cirio de Nazare is celebrated at the site of the Cathedral, Belem. It is celebrated in the month of October, every year. Cirio de Nazare is religious procession that starts from Cathedral in Belem and ends at Basilica de Nazare. This religious procession is being held for 200 years. The procession is held to honor the Lady of Nazareth who is considered as the patron saint of Para. On the Saturday of the first week people march in a procession from the Cathedral carrying the idol of Virgin to the Basilica de Nazare, Belem. On Sunday a huge fair is organized in the square in front of the Basilica de Nazare. After 2 weeks the idol of Virgin is taken back to to the Cathedral in a procession called the Re-Cirio.
