In the year 1696 during the month of July under the command of Salvador Fernando a camp was being held on the banks of the Riberao do Carmo where the campers discovered gold. After discovering quite a good quantity of gold, extensive excavations began in the area. Gradually cabins and dugouts were built for the people who were carrying on the work of excavation. As more and more huge quantities of gold were being unearthed the search began spreading to the surrounding hills. As a result of which a town finally sprung up in the area around 1711 A.D.

The name of the Gold Digger's Town, Belo Horizonte was named as marina since the year 1745. the name of the town was derived from the Portuguese Queen's name- Dona maria Ana. The Gold Digger's Town, Belo Horizonte has seen the excavation of around thirty-five tons of gold between the years of 1719 and the 80's of the last century. Tourist like to explore the remains of the Gold Digger's Town, Belo Horizonte which is actually now located in the town of Marina at a distance of about hundred and fifteen kilometers south of the city.
