Transportation in Salvador is convenient and makes your Salvador Travel easier. You can tour in and around Salvador with various modes of transportation available here. Air route is one of the most important means for Transportation in Salvador. Dois de Julho Airport is one major airport here. It is located 30 km away from the city center. Tourists will find here two taxi companies represented at the airport. They share a ticket office and offer the same prices. A taxi ride from the airport to Praça da Sé costs will cost you around US$30 - 40.

Varig Brazilian Airlines is the largest airline for Transportation in Salvador and it has direct flights from New York, Miami and Los Angeles directly into Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo. From these places, you can board connecting flights. Also, there are other international carriers with flights in Salvador. Apart from these, there are a number of national airlines servicing Salvador from other Brazilian cities.

Bus is the most convenient means for traveling in and around Salvador. The bus service is efficient and easy to avail. There are three municipal bus stops in Salvador. The two most frequently used municipal bus stops in the city center are Praça da Sé and Avenida da França. Tourists can avail buses from Praça da Sé to go to Campo Grande, Vitória and all the Atlantic coast beaches as far as Praia Flamengo past Praia Itapoã. You will also find here Executivo buses marked Praça da Sé or Aeroporto leaving from here going along the beaches from Barra to Itapoã. These rides will cost you around US$2.80. The best way to reach the city center is to take the green and white Ondina Executivo buses marked Praça da Sé or Aeroporto.

You will find the Avenida da França stop in Cidade Baixa beside the Lacerda Elevator. You will get the Ribeira and the Bonfim buses from here to the Itaparica ferry, the Mercado São Joaquim and the Igreja. The third municipal bus stop is Estação da Lapa in Barris which provides connections to everywhere in the city.

Also, there are hillside elevators for Transportation in Salvador. The Lacerda Elevator operates daily from 5 am to midnight connecting the low and high cities. The PIano Inclinado Gonçalves near the Praça da Sé, behind the cathedral, offers almost similar connections. It runs from Monday to Saturday from 5 am to 10 pm. Also, there is the Plano Inclinado Liberdade-Calçada which links two neighborhoods north of the city center.
