Pinacoteca do Estado, Sao Paulo is an art museum and one of the major Sao Paulo Tourist Attractions. It houses one of the most important collections of art in São Paulo. Pinacoteca do Estado, Sao Paulo features a grand collection of over 5,000 pieces of paintings, sculptures, photographs and other objects. The museum is housed within a neoclassical building since 1905.

The building of the Pinacoteca do Estado, Sao Paulo was built in 1905 and renovated in 1998. The building was designed by Ramos de Azevedo in 1897 and it was first planned to house the Liceu de Artes e Ofícios or the School of Arts and Crafts which was an institution for the graduation of the technicians and craftsmen who built 'the cities of the coffee crops'. With uncovered brick walls and wide windows, the building was completely renovated during the time of the Mario Covas Government. Today, the new rooms and indoor patios of the building with the aids of state-of-the-art equipments including modern lightning systems create an ideal environ to host significant art exhibitions.

Pinacoteca do Estado in Sao Paulo is the place to head for if you are interested in Brazilian art from the 19th century to the contemporary age. Pinacoteca do Estado, Sao Paulo features collections of works of art by artists born in the city, such as Almeida Júnior, Pedro Alexandrino, Miró and Oscar Pereira da Silva. Apart from this, there are representative works of art by artists like Cândido Portinari, Anita Mafaldi, Victor Brecheret, Tarsila do Amaral and Di Cavalcanti at the museum.

Pinacoteca do Estado, Sao Paulo has more than 10 Rodin sculptures and a large number of paintings and canvasses by famous Brazilian artists. Appreciate the Tarsila do Amaral creations with his colorful and somewhat abstract portraits. Admire the Cândido Portinari oil paintings which carry suggestive social and historical themes.

The Pavilhão das Artes or the Pavilion of Arts and the Parque do Ibirapuera or the Ibirapuera Park are also part of Pinacoteca do Estado, Sao Paulo and they also hold exhibitions of renowned artists. Pinacoteca do Estado, Sao Paulo is open on Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. There is also a restaurant at the museum building.
