There are mainly 3 airports in Sao Paulo which cater to the transportation needs of the local people as well as the international travelers. The chief airports in Sao Paulo comprise the Congohas Airport, Sao Paulo International Airport and the Viracopos Airport. The Congohas Airport is located at distance of about 14 km from the centre of the city where as the Viracopos Airport is situated at a distance of about 100 km and the Sao Paulo International Airport at about 30 km away from the heart of the city.

The Congonhas Airport which is also an international airport of Sao Paulo is actually placed at a distance of about 8 km from the heart of the city of Sao Paulo. This Sao Paulo airport got its name from the plant which is commonly found in this area. This Congonhas Airport was the main airport of the city until the year 1985 when another airport- Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport was built. Theprimary aim of building the Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport was that the Congonhas Airport was not well-equipped enough to handle the huge traffic. The Congonhas Airport is the main hub of some of the largest airlines in the country of Brazil- Gol Transportes Aeros, TAM Linhas Aereas and Varig. The main destinations of the country Belo Horizonte (with flights flying every 15 min.), Curitiba (with flights flying every 25 min.) and the Rio de Janerio (with flights every 15 min.).

The Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport is the chief operating international airport of Sao Paulo. The airport houses bars and restaurants where the passengers can relax if they have a couple of hours to kill. There are also some shops lining he airport and they are worth taking a look at. Some of the major airlines serving the airport are- Air France Airlines, British Airlines, KLM Airlines, Lufthansa Airlines and United Airlines.

The Viracopos Airport is one of the two domestic airports located in the city of Campinas but serving Sao Paulo. There are around 108 domestic flights flying from Sao Paulo every week. This Viracopos Airport connects nearly 7 cities at one go with the largest aircraft a 32 s having around 150 seats. The longest flight from Viracopos Airport is around 542 miles.
