The 2nd century BC Barabar Hill Caves are the finest example of Ashoka's tolerance to other religions of that time. The most noteworthy among the four Caves is the Lomas Rishi Cave, which is carved out of a huge rounded granite rock. The façade of this beautiful cave is inspired by the wood and thatch kutias (small helmets) in which ancient ascetics including Buddhist monks used to live in. The interior of the cave consists of a big rectangular chamber with a noticeable shining polish.
