Ghosrawan is a small but important Buddhist site in India. Located at just 5 km from Pawapuri, the birthplace of Mahavira, Ghosrawan is probably the site of the Kapotaka Vihara, which was once a very large and important Buddhist monastery, visited and described by Hiuen Tsiang, the great 7th century Chinese traveler.

Ghosrawan is famous for an excellent 10 ft high statue of Lord Buddha carved out of a shiny black stone, showing Buddha in a sitting position. On your tours to Ghosrawan, you can also visit Tetrawan, a small village located to the south of Ghosrawan. The village is famous for a Temple containing an astonishing collection of intricately calved Buddhas and bodhisattvas. Nawada, a small town of Bihar near Rajgir, can also be visited on way to Ghosrawan. The town has a small museum with a beautiful collection of Buddha statues.
