Jethian Tours

Jethian, called Lativana or the Palm Grove in ancient times, is a small but important Buddhist destination, located near Rajgir in Bihar. Now a small village, it was Jethian where lord Buddha and King Bimbasara met for the first time. Jayasena, the famous 7th century saint is also associated with Jethian and Hiuen Tsang, the great Chinese pilgrim, spent two years here as a disciple of Jayasena.

There are number of Buddhist structures and statues of the Buddha in and around Jethian. On your way to Jethian, you can see a huge mound with a tank and an impressive statue of the Buddha. The mound is believed to be the remains of the stupa built over the Supatittha Cetiya, the place where the Buddha stayed during his stay in Jethian. A little away at Saravodaya Vidyalaya, you can see the statues of Padmapani and the Buddha. On the Chandu Hill, at a distance of about 3 km from Jethian, there is a large cave called Rajpind, which finds its mention in the Tripitaka.

How to Reach

It's difficult to reach Jethian, but the place is well worth the effort. One can reach Jethian, by turning west just before where Gaya - Rajgir road enters the mountains at Rajgir.
