Located at just about 10 km from Kosambi, Prabhosa is one of the famous Buddhist destinations of India. According to Buddhist history, Lord Buddha spent his 6th rain retreat at Prabhosa (he spent as many as 19 rainy seasons in Sravasti) but did not give any religious discourse here. The great Chinese traveler and scholar Hiuen Tsang visited Prabhosa around 635 AD and has mentioned about a stupa constructed by Emperor Ashoka.

But, today none of the Buddhist antiquities exist in Prabhosa. The hills around Prabhosa have many caves and rock shelters, particularly on the steeper and rockier north side. 'Sita's Window', the largest cave (9 x 7 ft) is believed to be the one where lord Buddha spent his 6th rainy season during his visit to Prabhosa. On your tours to Prabhosa, you can see this cave and get a clear idea of the places chosen for meditation by the Buddha.
