Located at about 45 km from Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, Sanchi is world-famous for its magnificent Stupa. Sanchi is also known for its temples and Buddhist monasteries of the Gupta Period. The Great Stupa at Sanchi was built buy the emperor Ashoka and is listed amongst the World Heritage Sites. The sculptors belonging to different periods also depict the Buddha in various forms through symbols like the Tree, Throne, Stupa, Horse, Lion and Elephant.
