One’s tour to Kandal will be considered incomplete without a tour to Ang Kor Chey Pagoda, Kandal. The Ang Kor Chey Pagoda, Kandal is located at Banteay Dek Commune in Kean Svay District, 29 kilometers from the capital city of Phnom Penh.
If one is driving from the city of Phnom Penh, one must travel across the Monivong Bridge and avail the National Road 1 to reach the location of Ang Kor Chey Pagoda. After driving for approximate distance of 29 kilometers, the tourists will reach the pagoda gate which is on the right of the main road.
The main Wat of Ang Kor Chey Pagoda is located 1,600 meters inside the main gate. One of the main characteristic of the pagoda is the onsite pond which holds water for use in the dry season. Other important feature of the Ang Kor Chey Pagoda in Kandal is the Buddhist site of Dombok Kmao. Located behind the pagoda on a termite mound, the site features bowls, pots and tools which are believed to have been owned by an ancient king. Many superstitions and beliefs have been attached to this termite mound and this attracts a large section of tourists and pilgrims throughout the year.
Flocked by tourists, it has become one of the frequently visited tourist attractions in Kandal. These tourists also bring the water from the pond as it is considered holy and curative by many locals. But apart from the religious connotation, what makes the visit memorable is the beautiful scenery complimented by the pleasant environment.
