Phnom Athareus/Phnom Odong, Kandal is regularly visited by travelers who are looking for a scenic retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Phnom Athareus/Phnom Odong, Kandal is approximately 41 kilometers from the capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh.

The ranges include the summits of five hills – Chetdei, Trai Treung, Chetdei Kampui Buon, Preah Ang Chol Nipean and Ariya Kasaks. The entire area of Phnom Athareus/Phnom Odong, Kandal is spread over an area of 1,500 meters by 700 meters from the east and the west.
One of the main ranges in the region, Phnom Odong comprises of two humpbacked hills. The smaller hill is characterized by a shrine which has been built atop the hill. Along with the shrine, tourists can also view the ruins of the Ta San Mosque which is believed to have been built by a Cham Muslim. The other hill which is considered as the main hill houses a stupa that comprises of remains of the past monarchs of Cambodia including King Monivong and King Ang Duong. A former capital city, Kandal has been the home to several monarchs and one can experience a part of the history while visiting this remarkable tourism site which has also boosted the tourism sector of the country.
In 2002, a new stupa was built at the edge of the ridge. This Buddhist stupa features important relics related to Lord Buddha which were previously kept at a stupa in Phnom Penh. Tourists will be impressed with the structure of the stupa which offers breathtaking view of the surrounding areas.
