Angkor Borie, Siem Reap is one of the most popular sightseeing places in Siem Reap. If history and archeology delights you then Angkor Borie, Siem Reap is a must visit sight for you.
Angkor Borie is a town in the area of several ruins and archaeological digs. The area contains artifacts dating from the Funan times in the 4th and 5th century and the Water Chenla in the 8th century as well as the later Angkorian period. The prasat ruins on top of nearby Phnom Da are 11th century Angkorian. There is a small museum in the town. A visit to the museum will help you in unfolding the past secrets of the village. Some of the important items on display in the museum are ancient artifacts, coins, paintings etc.
This village area was thought to be the site of Vyadhapura, the last capital of the Funan King Rudravarman in the sixth century. The Lower Mekong Archaeological Project (LOMAP), which is a result of the combined effort of the University of Hawaii, the East-West Center and the Royal University of Fine Arts, is working hard to unearth evidence of much earlier occupation of the area. Excavations are taking place in people's backyards and in orchards in and around the town of Angkor Borei.
