National Museum of Yaounde - This museum belongs to the Department of Cultural Conservation of the Cultural Affairs Head Office since 1972. This is one of the most important Yaounde Museums. It is now housed in a former ministerial residence on the road which leads to the Yaounde Central Hospital. It is close to the Ministry of Public Service and National Education. The museum first occupied the building in 1973 which was also the year of the constitution of the collections. The permanent exhibition hall is in the former sitting room. The glass-cabinets were bought with the personal and financial help of Mrs. Joudiou a graduate of the Paris Art and Archeology Institute, M. M. Joseph-Marie Essomba, a Senior lecturer in History and Archeology and Bernard-Patrick AYUK, of the Chief Department of the Conservation. Later the museum will become an ecological museum so everyone can know about the socio-cultural activities of the country.
Afhemi Museum - This museum was officially inaugurated on October 20, 1999 by the Ministry of Culture. There are over two thousand artifacts, antiquities, traditional art objects and paintings, some of which are more than 900 years old. Many of the objects are made of copper, silver, brass, wood, bronze and fired clay. You can also see a collection of royal beds and utensils, healing art works, ritual and ceremonial masks, statues and power mediums and vectors of good omens and repellents of dangerous charms. This Museum of Yaounde also has a collection of hand-embroidered cloth, mud cloth, tie-dyed fabric, bamboo and raffia works, traditionally hand-woven fabric, batik and beaded objects.
The Benedictine Museum of Mont Febe or Small museum of Camerounese Art of Mont Febe - In 1932 the Benedictine Fathers arrived in Cameroon and took care of the Great Seminar of MVOI.YE and OTELE for a long time. When Farther Luitfrid MARFU'T arrived in Cameroon in 1954 he was interested in Camerounese art. The first collections were the ABBIAS which had a peculiar style. These were bounded fruit shells on which were marvelous sculptures of animals, men and everyday life. It shows the extraordinary relation between men and the nature and the way these people think about the universe. A game made out of ABBIAS also existed. It was a chance game where one won or lost according to the totem shown on the Abbia pawn. Since 1964 the museum's collection has grown.
