Abeche is the fourth largest city in Chad. It has by some estimates a population of 54,628 according to the last census of 1993.The city was the capital of the Ouaddai kingdom until France took over the reigns of the city. When the French arrived in Chad, Abeche was the most important urban center of the country with a population of almost 40000 inhabitants. It was the center of the most powerful Ouaday kingdom and even today you can still find many crumbling signs of its former glory.
There are a few old mosques, cobbled streets, souqs and a very rundown Sultan's palace. The place is especially exciting because there are nomads all over the place and they all look very mysterious straight out of the coffee table brochure. The city of Abeche is known for its markets and two mosques, Church and a central square named The place de l'independance and the Sultan's palace. Abeche also has school, post office and hospital alongwith an Airport in Abeche. The Airport in Abeche is connected to the largets airport in Chad, the N'Djamena airport.
The Airport in Abeche is linked to the airport in N'Djamena the main city of N'djamena is very important a center for all had based airline companies and the city was founded as Fort ,Lamy by the French commander Emile Gentil on May 29th 1900.and the ensuing name ws given by Amedee Francois Lamy and army officer who had been killed in the Battle of Kousseri in Chad. The name of the city then was changed to N'Djamena, which was taken from the Arab name of a nearby village which was then known as a place of rest. The city was partly destroyed during the Chadian Civil War, in 1979 and again in 1980.
The airport at the capital N'djamena is connected with the other cities in Chad. The most important of the airports is the Airport in Abeche. The city of Abeche is a city which lies at the crossroads of the border between Sudan and Chad. It is in close proximity of the Sahara on the north and the Sudanese border.
