With an area of 303342 acres of land, the Lauca National Park, Chile is a very big global Biosphere Reserve which covers the bare Andean mountain chain and the high plateau of the northeastern end of the region of Tarapaca. It has a dry climate with a well defined day and night thermal variations. This park is known for being home to a great wealth of flora and fauna, its highly interesting cultures and history and sites of Uncultivated beauty. More than 130 bird species live in this park and in addition to the numerous birds and other ornithological specimens, there are a lot of distinctive vicunas and vizcachas and condors too. The most important attraction is the astonishing Chungara lake one of the most elevated of the lakes and located at the foot of the Payachata twin volcanoes.
The Park is located at about 145 kilometers east of Arica and Putre is located at approximately 12 kilometres to the west. There are airplane services which take you to the Park at regular hours from Santiago and other Southern parts of Chile. You can get from Arica to Parinacota by bus. If you want to go via the Car service then you can take the International Highway CH 11. The boundaries of the park are about 145 kilometers away. There are year round trips to the park where there are other nearby attractions that are there close to the park. These include the Parinacota and Jurasi hot springs and these always attract a great number of people.
You can enjoy your stroll across the Park in addition to a number of activities. These include fishing, mountain climbing, trekking and white water rafting. There are a number of cultural tours and also the flora and fauna observation tours which captivate the travelers and the tourist alike.
