Pumalin Park, Chile is a 300,000 hectares of Private Park in Chile. It is the largest private park in the world. Pumalin Park, Chile offers excursion trails, camping areas, information centers, cafes and restaurants as well as land and water excursions to you.
The Pumalin Park in Chile covers a large area of the Palena Province territory. The park is essentially made up of farmland. The terrain of the park comprises elevated slopes and land settled over rocks. The beautiful forests over the terrain offer solid protection from any kinds of soil erosion.
The landscape of the Pumalin Park has been completely formed by glaciations. This is evident from the large rocky formations, with deeply carved cliffs cut out by ice. A few valleys in the park appear to have been formed in marshy areas where sandy, fine material has been deposited. Large hanging valleys and glacial valleys are a part of the park. The glaciers and lakes of these valleys form rivers that flow through the territory in the northwest direction and finally empty out into the sea.
The coastal part has been reserved for the development of narrow and extensive beaches. In the fjords, the coastline is bordered by abrupt hills that form peaks of up to 1, 500 meters above the sea level. The beaches in this region are very narrow and scarce. The depth of the sea in the fjords is more than 300 meters.
The elevated mountainous part of the Pumalin Park is characterized by its powerful terrain. It consists of sharply formed peaks and vertical summits. The most notable peaks of the region are the Michinmahuida Volcano and the Chaiten Volcano. The Michinmahuida Volcano is one of the 3 large snow caps or glacial plateaus of this sector of the Continent. The snow is a permanent facet to the volcano. Surrounding this snowcapped volcano are countless glacial spits that slide down towards the foot of the park.
Due to the diversity in climatic conditions, the Pumalin Park is home to different species of wildlife. Common mammals found in the park include the mountain monkey, coupu, zorro culpeo or the Chilean large fox, ferret, wild cat, puma, river otter, guemul and Chilean mountain goat. Birds like penguins, cormorants, herons, storks, swans, condors and hawks can also be spotted here.
