Queulat National Park, Chile is located in the vicinity of Puerto Cisnes. The park covers an area of 154,093 hectares. Queulat National Park, Chile is easily accessible and features a great variety of different animal and plant species.
This beautiful Queulat National Park is mostly unexplored. It is an extraordinary expanse of virgin forest, canals, fjords, glaciers and ice fields. Its rocky slopes, deep, steep valleys, impressive snow-capped mountains and glaciers reflect the glaciations that occurred thousands of years ago. The park has a humid climate. It experiences abundant precipitation throughout the year. The precipitation reaches about 3,500 millimeter to 4,000 millimeter annually. The average temperature in the different sectors of the park is approximately 10° C.
Many rivers flow through the park. These include the Quelat and the Ventisquero, the Bordali, Guillermo, Cisnes and Pedregoso rivers. The Ventisquero begins as a glacier and ends at the Puyuhuapi Canal.
The park has a rich plant life. The evergreen forest of the park is composed of coigue, tepa and tepu, as well as enormous nalcas. The fauna of the region include the pudu, guina, black woodpecker, caiquen, black-necked swan, coipo, chucao, and ringed kingfisher. The various natural attractions in the park include the famous Hanging Glacier, which was discovered in the year 1875 by Captain Enrique Simpson. The glacier was originally 100 meters from the sea shore and is now 7,800 meters away from the sea.
Other attractions here include Risopatron Lake, Tempanos lagoon, Queulat bay, Padre Garcia and Condor waterfalls. All of these are some of the most beautiful sites in the park, and can be discovered by following some of the popular trails in the park.
A trial in the Queulat National Park from Risopatron Lake to the coast of the Glacier Inlet enables one to see large expanse of forests. You can admire nature from the lookout point over the Glacier River. Other places that the trial lead to include Mount. Queulat, the thick glacial walls, and the Padre Garcia and Condor waterfalls.
Following the Cascadas River a tourist can come to the beautiful Lagoon of the Gnomes. The river originates at the glacier. Daring hikers can continue on to the more challenging Guillermo River.
