Los Vilos, Chile is a famous resort and port in Chile. It is located 246 kilometers southeast of La Serena and 224 kilometers north of Santiago. Los Vilos, Chile has a population of about 9,422.
The city was founded in the 1830s. It was declared a minor port in 1855, when it was an export point for minerals and agricultural produce. An ancient quay and derrick still remains in the port area.Fishing is the main activity of the region. It primarily centers on the 2 small bays, of San Pedro and Las Conchas. Seafood and fish are sold in plenty in this part of the city.
The two attractive beaches in Los Vilos are La Principal and Las Conchas. Both the beaches provide a huge selection of seafood along with other services for tourists. The other services example includes taking boat trips to an island called the Isla de los Huevos.
The large beaches of Los Vilos, Chile are also suitable for swimming, excursions, walks and water sports. The beaches of Pichidangui are well known throughout Chile. It is very suitable for windsurfing and attracts thousands of visitors during the summer. The bay has white sands and is 7 kilometers wide.
Because of its fresh vegetation and lukewarm waters the place is an ideal place for both the young and old. The city has excellent hotel accommodation, motels, campsites, a yacht club, and restaurants. All the restaurants serve rich seafood dishes, like seafood pailas a famous Chilean fried meal, ceviches, mariscales, and other very sought after and appetizing dishes for the visitor.

Quilimari- This is a valley which lies a few kilometers south of Los Vilos. The village of Quilimari is known for its pretty textile crafts. The picturesque little town of Guanguali, near Quilimari is known for its traditional pottery wares.
Los Molles- This is a picturesque place made up of a large beach with fine white sands. There is even a very pretty fishing cove here.
Punta de Lobos- This place is located 5 kilometers to the south of Los Vilos. It is a natural viewpoint from where you can see the island Isla de Lobos. About 1,400 specimens of seals live here.
