Temple of Light and Children's Love in Guangzhou is situated near the Temple of Six Banyan Trees. It is one of the city's oldest buildings. It used to be the royal residence of the King of Nanyue, Zhao Jiande, in the 1st century BC. Later it served as a temple during the rule of the Western Jin dynasty during 256-316. Following that the temple served as the base for Indian monks who traveled to China to spread Buddhism. History has it that Huinen, the sixth patriarch of Zen Buddhism, took his vows at Temple of Light and Children's Love, Guangzhou The temple was rechristened as the Temple of Light and Children's Love in 1151.

The main temple is flanked on both sides by two iron pagodas namely the Eastern Iron Pagoda ( Dongtie Ta) and the Western Iron Pagoda( Xitie Ta). It was built in 967 AD. The Eastern Iron Pagoda is adorned with more than 900 niches housing Buddha statutes. While the Western Iron Pagoda consists of 3 stories. It dates back to 963 AD.
