Enjoy the scenic beauty while sailing through the Lijiang River, Guilin. Guilin city is located on the west bank of the Lijiang River in northeast of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in China. The Lijiang River, Guilin is also known as Li River and is in the Guangxi Province. The river originates in the Mao'er Mountains in Xing'an County.

Lijiang River in Guilin originates from the confluence of the Darong River to Pingle and meanders through Yangshuo and Guilin. The total length is 116 kilometers and the surrounding area is a scenic zone. The Lijiang River Scenic Zone in Guilin spreads over 2000 square kilometers which includes the city of Guilin, Yangshuo County and parts of Lingui, Lingchuan and Yongfu counties.

The river is surrounded by sloping hillocks, ridges, ravines and karst caves. There are five scenic sites along the Lijiang River, Guilin. See the 157 rock hills and 21 major karst caves along the river. The Lijiang River Scenic Zone is enlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some of the famous sites which can be seen along the river are -

  • Reed-Flute Rock - This is a limestone cave with beautiful stalactites, stalagmites, stalacto-stalagmites, rocky curtains, and cave corals.
  • Seven-Star Park is the largest park in Guilin.
  • Mountain of Splendid Hues is a mountain comprising of many colored rock layers.
  • Elephant-Trunk Hill - This is a symbol of Guilin city and looks like an elephant drinking water with its trunk.
  • Lingqu Canal was dug in 214 BC and is the oldest existing canal in the world. It is also one of the three big water conservation projects of ancient China.
  • Some of the other attractions are the Taohua River, the Giant Banyan, Duxiu Peak, Nanxi Park and the Huashan-Lijiang National Folklore Park.

While taking a tour on the Lijiang River, Guilin you will see many fishing boats with cormorants. The fishermen use these birds to catch fish. You will pass by some of the scenic spots like Clean Vase Hill (Jingpingshan), Pierced Hill (Chuanshan), Embroidery Hill (Xiushan), and Picture Hill (Huashan). If you get down at Yangshou you should visit the arts and craft market and the Green Lotus Peak at Bilian Feng.
